New Trademark and Patent Funding Scheme Announced by EUIPO

As of the 10th of January 2022, applications for the new EU SME Fund have been launched again as part of a European Commission initiative implemented by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Open to SMEs established in the European Union, this scheme offers financial support and is now more adapted to the growing IP needs of SMEs in the context of COVID19.

Applicants can now benefit from a 75% reimbursement on trademark and design fees at the EU and national level and a 50% reimbursement of patent fees at the national level. Being the first time also covering patents, businesses can receive partial reimbursement of up to €1,500 per beneficiary for trademarks and designs and up to €750 for patents.

Applications are open until the 16th of December 2022 and candidates will receive feedback within 15 working days from submission, in which you will be notified whether the grant was approved or if there are any clarification requests.

The scheme covers the costs of activities implemented after receiving the grant award and excludes any activities done prior to this. Following the payment of the first activity, the business activates the voucher by requesting the reimbursement to then receive funds.

Since the launch of the first EU SME Fund in 2021, a total of 12,989 businesses within the EU Member States benefited from a budget of €6.8 million in funding.
